OPI Schnapps Out Of It!

Since I am trying to get back on track when it come to nail polish reviews, I decided to give one of the newer OPI polishes from their Germany collection a try.  I was feeling quite in the Fall mood, and because the end of October is quickly approaching I decided to give OPI's Schnapps Out Of It! a go.

Schnapps Out Of It!(which is quite a cute name) is a try pumpkin orange in my opinion, so I found it quite appropriate for the end of October.  I don't actually own a lot of orange polishes, just a bright orange I believe from Essie.  But I am kind of liking this deeper, more brown orange shade because it is a bit more subte and Fall appropriate.

Along with the color, which is true to color when applied on the nails, I was quite impressed with the formula of Schnapps Out Of It!  It's an incredibly creamy and opaque varnish which applies quite evenly on the first coat.  This picture of the color swatch was actually taken after applying only ONE coat of Schnapps Out Of It! on my nails (which I don't do often).  But because the color was already completely opaque, and the application was so even, I found no reason to go in with a second coat (which I have never done with any other polish).

Definitely going to enjoy this shade until the end of Halloween week, and will be off to my polish soon after.  So keep an eye out for that!

Ralph Lauren Riding Boots

I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of black riding boots for the Fall/Winter season for a little under 2 months now, and I have finally found it!  Riding boots are one of the biggest trends for the Fall season, since it brings in that classic preppy look.  I live in black tights in the colder season, so I thought investing in a nice pair of black leather riding boots would be essential.

After searching through many stores, I finally found this pair of Ralph Lauren Riding boots at DSW (which is probably my new favorite shoe place).  These are the Ralph Lauren Riata Riding Boots and I absolutely love the sleekness of the black leather, and the simple buckle detailing on the side just makes it look very classic and luxe.

It does have a 1 inch heel on it, which I thought I would not like at first, but after trying this pair it did not bother me a bit.  I absolutely love how this looks with black tights/leggings.  This has to be my favorite purchase for Fall?winter yet!

Although it was a bit pricey, I know this investment purchase will definitely get me a lot of wear and I will be able to enjoy these for years to come.

It's Mad Hatter FASHION

Halloween is slowly creeping on us, and every where I go I see people frantically shopping to put their costume together.  When I think of Halloween and costume ideas, I always go back to childhood storybooks and certain characters to find inspiration.

When I combine my love for fashion now with my obsession with storybook characters as a child, I would have to say that the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland is the perfect style icon.

It's Mad Hatter FASHION

So in honor of the Halloween season, I decided to come up with an inspiration board for Mad Hatter, which includes two looks.  One is a Halloween look, with more quirky pieces that really fits the Mad Hatter look, while the other is more of an everyday look that consist of pieces inspired by the character.

Halloween is all about being creative.  By using your imagination, you can transform your look into anything you want to become.  Although this is definitely a more designer style (and priced) look, I still had fun putting it together.

HALLOWEEN INSPIRED:
- Mary Katranzou Dress
- Disney Mad Hatter Hat
- Smallable Black Tights
- Steve Madden Troopa Boots

EVERYDAY INSPIRED:
- Smythe Peaked Lapel Blazer
- ACNE High Waisted Zip Trouser
- Wool Bucket Ribbon Hat
- Michael Kors Mariel Flat Riding Boot

The everyday inspired look is definitely more toned down and wearable.  You have the structure and whimsical feel for the character, yet still being classic and sophisticated.

OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons

It's been a while since I've posted about a new nail polish, mainly because I've been too lazy to do my own nails.  But after a night of self pampering, I finally decided that it's time to really show my nails some love my giving them a nice manicure.

Whenever I can't decide what color to paint my nails, I always go with a nude polish.  You can never go wrong with a nude polish because it gives that clean, sophisticated look.  There are so many nude polishes out in the market, and it's all about finding the perfect nude that compliments your skin tone.  Because my Summer tan has been fading drastically, I decided to give OPI's Don't Pretzel My Buttons, from their Germany Collection, a try.

I absolutely love the color in the bottle and I thought it translated perfectly onto the nails.  It's the perfect neutral color because it's a bone nude, meaning it's not too pink or peachy, and not too brown.  The formula of this polish is incredibly creamy and opaque, as with all of the other polishes in the Germany Collection.  You can probably pull this off with one coat, but I always apply two for an even and smooth application.

I think this will definitely be my go to nude color for the colder seasons.

P.S. Please excuse my dry cuticles, the weather has not been too kind to them.

Winter Whites

No white after Labor Day? I personally love wearing white in the colder seasons.  It brings a lighter, more ethereal feel, and is as eye catching as wearing any brighter color.

Winter Whites

Many may say wearing white my be too simple, boring, or flat.  However, just as when you are wearing any other solid color, when you play around with textures and shapes, you can create a lot of dimension to your look.

THE STRUCTURED DRESS
The structured dress brings a classic, sophisticated style that really makes a statement.  Playing with different materials, wool and tweed brings more depth and design into the white dresses.

COOL & CASUAL TOPS
Who says everything about Winter has to be heavy. I love playing with layers, and working with lighter, more airy tops bring a sort of coolness to an outfit.  Layer this under lighter sweaters and jackets will definitely help create that more relaxed look.

THE OUTER LAYER
Can't get through Winter without that perfect coat.  Once again, take this opportunity to play around with textures, leather versus wool (other anything else you may prefer) to really show your sense of style and personality.

Instead of fashion rules, following fashion inspirations and bring out your personality in what you wear.

Playing with Textures - Suede

Suede is one of the biggest trends when it comes to playing around with textures for Fall 2012.  It's the softness of the fabric and makes it fun to manipulate and work into your wardrobe.

Playing with Textures - Suede

1. The Essential Jacket - Mango Suede Biker Jacket
The jacket will always be the essential/staple piece to have in your wardrobe because it's that layering piece that will always be a classic look that you can work with multiple looks.

A structured, classic bag is a must and I love when designers add textured to their handbags.  These oversized, suede bags not only play into the suede trend, but also the larger and more structured totes are also a huge trend for the season.

My favorite way to rock suede is with shoes, and I can't get enough of these casual chic wedges.  Gives you that extra bit of elevation with the added comfort of a regular sneaker.

Are you more into the sky high heels? Look no further than these sexy pumps that can really amp up any look.  I;m dying over these Giuseppe Zanotti pumps.

Overwhelmed by all of this suede? Take it down a notch by just playing up your jewelry and add cuffs like these for that little touch of texture.

I absolutely love mixing it up and definitely can't wait to use these inspiration pieces as shopping guidelines to find more affordable suede staples.

Cool Leathers

Fall is all about cool leather pieces, and every girl needs a staple leather jacket in their wardrobe.  Layering is key when it comes to Fall looks, so having a great leather jacket to work into your look can really help you create multiple looks with just a few pieces.

Chanel Les Ombres Quadra - Eye Shadow Quad

A few weeks ago I had purchased a Chanel Eye Shadow quad and I had fallen in love with the quality and texture of the shadows.  So when my Dad had asked me what he should pick up for my Mom for their anniversary, I wanted one of the products to be a very wearable and neutral shadow quad for her.

I have seen her reach for and play around with my Chanel shadows in the past, so I thought it would be nice for her to have her very own little quad to have for travel.  So when we were at the counter, they showed us the Chanel Les Ombres Quadra - Eye Shadow Quad in Dunes (which I believe is new for their Fall collection) and I thought it was perfect for my Mom.

Dunes has the perfect, wearable colors that have the satin finish, rather than a glittery finish.  Because my Mom is older, it's best that she stays away from the glittery shadows.  The quad comes with a nude, pale pink, light taupe, and nutty brown, which I feel are all perfect shades for her to wear for any occasion.  She definitely isn't into the darker, smokey shadows, so this quad will help her create more sophisticated and classic looks.

I know she is absolutely loving it at the moment, seeing how she has it displayed out on her vanity, and I love when she asks me to do an eye look for her using the quad.

The Chanel shadows just apply so smoothly on her lids and blend beautifully.  And talk about long wearing, I remember she had her makeup on for around 10 hours one day because of a wedding she was going to (which is an all day event) and she came home looking just as beautiful as when she had left the house.  A little Chanel definitely goes a long way.

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel

Out of the entire Chanel makeup line, the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel bronzing makeup base is one of the products that I have wanted the most.  I have always put off purchasing this because it's always been sold out at the counters (because it's so in demand), but I finally got my hands on it after putting it off for a year.

The Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel bronzing makeup base is a cream-gel bronzer that has a velvety, buttery texture.  It gives your skin that natural sun kissed glow without being too overwhelmingly orange.  Use it as an overall bronzer for that sun kissed look, or contour to accent features on your face.  It looks absolutely radiant on your skin and wears quite beautifully.

I initially wanted the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel for the Summer time, just to accentuate the sun kissed look.  I was quite hesitant to purchase it now because I did not think it would look so great when my tan fades.  However, when the make up artist at the counter played around with it on me and gave me application tips, I think it's perfect all year round.  I mainly use the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel as a contour, around my cheeks and temples, and it gives me that very natural Summer look without looking fake.

The best way to apply the cream bronzer is with a smaller stippling brush, it picks up just enough product without over applying, and just blends the cream evenly and beautifully.  What's also nice is that the one shade works with many skin tones.  Use a very light had for paler skin tones, or slowly build up color with darker skin tones.

I am absolutely in love with the wear of the cream bronzer and cab definitely see this being a staple product in my makeup routine.

Chanel Ultra Correction Line Repair Eye Cream

A little while ago my Dad had purchased a few items from Chanel for my Mom for their anniversary (which was the sweetest thing to see them exchange gifts), and the Chanel Ultra Correction Line Repair Eye Cream was one of the products she was given.  It's a very soft, anti-wrinkle under eye cream that decreases any appearance of puffiness or darkness.

I usually have my Origins under eye cream for my night time skin care routine, but lately I haven't been getting enough rest so my eyes were definitely in need for some extra TLC.  So I decided to use a little bit of her Chanel Ultra Correction Line Repair Eye Cream to see how well the product actually works for, especially since the price tag if pretty steep.

I can honestly say that the overnight difference was definitely noticeable.  My under eyes were looking extremely tired and a little darker than usual, but after applying the cream and resting overnight I definitely loved what a difference it made the next morning.  My under eyes definitely looked more hydrated and less dull.  The consistency of the cream was extremely light, and I can feel my skin absorbing all of the product immediately.

Because this is such an expensive cream, I don't think I would want to use it everyday, especially because my Origins under eye cream works just fine at a better price.  But because the effects are so quick and amazing, I would use this for those special occasions where I want to look a little more awake and have my under eyes brighten up a bit.

My Mom absolutely loves this.  Because I don't have wrinkles to really worry about, I was not able to feel much of a difference when it comes to it being an anti-wrinkle cream.  However, she told me she can feel her under eye area tightening up a bit and loves the results of the cream.  So for the price, you are really getting your moneys worth.  I would have to say that for someone my age, this cream is a little bit much and you can probably get away with other brands of under eye cream (such as Korres or Origins).  But for older women looking to really repair and rejuvenate the under eye area, the Chanel Ultra Correction Line Repair Eye Cream will not disappoint.

Race for the Cure

Race to Awareness

October is one of my favorite months of the year, as it brings together strangers from around the world to bring awareness to "Race for the Cure."  Breast Cancer affects millions of families all across the globe, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation plays a critical role in the fight against breast cancer.  All year round they bring awareness and spread hope to millions of people, but it's the month of October that gives them the opportunity to give 31 days of impact.  And because of that, many companies partner up with the Susan G. Komen foundation to continue to raise awareness and funds for the month of October.

These are some of the items that I personally like and and if I wanted to purchase it just means that all of the proceeds goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

If you want to shop around for yourself, or anyone else that you'd love to spread the cause to, definitely check out the Susan G. Komen website for more awareness items.  You can also skip the shop and make a direct donation.  Just remember, every penny is one step closer to a cure, so it's not the amount but the step forward.

Lancome Coral Crush

Lancome Inspiration

One of my favorite palettes for the season has been the Lancome Color Design Palette in Coral Crush.  It the perfect, go to palette for a Fall neutral look.  The hints of blush and silver give that added softness, making it a very feminine and easy.

With the palette, I decided to create an inspiration board which puts together a look brining out a few of the colors in the palette.

- JS Collection Dress
- Dorchester Shoulder Bag

Definitely one of my favorite looks for a special evening out.
